The Genoa General Store building started out as a boarding house for Italian workers in Carson City in the 1880s. The building later became Dick’s Bar, and in 1976 it was moved from Carson City to 2299 Main Street, Genoa. The owners of Miller's Market in Gardnerville, refurbished the north end of the building and opened the Genoa General Store. The US Post Office leased the south end of the building to service residents in Genoa until the new post office was opened in 1999 at the corner of Foothill Road and Candy Dance Lane.
