GENOA ENHANCEMENT PROJECT — This is the first of construction schedule updates that will be posted regularly to inform residents of the work and progress that they will see occurring around the main streets in Genoa. A & K, the project Contractors, intend to spend the first couple of weeks focusing their attention on required underground improvements extending along Foothill Road, south of Genoa Lane. This will include trenching and installing the infrastructure needed to put electrical power underground once the telephone poles [four] are removed at a later date.

CLICK HERE to download our Genoa Main Street Enhancement Project PDF for a view of the final plans for Main Street.

Please contact the Genoa Town Office if you have any questions or comments.

Monday, March 15 — Main Street Construction

GENOA ENHANCEMENT PROJECT —The Genoa Enhancement Project took off this week with an influx of construction materials and equipment; clearing, particularly noticeable in the vicinity of the island; and trenching on the east side of Foothill from Genoa Station Bar and Grille to the front of the La Ferme Restaurant. The trenching was done for the installation of sewer laterals and underground electrical conduit. Currently work is occurring in front of the Town Office and La Ferme.

For safety reasons, parking on the street will not be possible within the construction traffic control zones during construction.

We will try to keep you informed of brief interruptions to normal traffic patterns as they occur.

The paver / walkway portion of the Walley’s to Genoa Trail began installation this week and is anticipated that will be finished in the coming week baring bad weather delays.

Monday, March 18 — Main Street Construction

GENOA ENHANCEMENT PROJECT — Construction work is expected to continue northward towards Genoa Lane this week. We anticipate intermittent closing of SR206 (Foothill Rd.) from Carson Street to Genoa Lane from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to complete utility crossings and asphalt patching. Traffic will be detoured via Nixon, Genoa Street and Carson Street. In addition, A&K may begin installing the sewer crossing in front of the Country Store on Tuesday and/or Wednesday followed by the electrical conduit crossings.

For safety reasons, parking on the street will not be possible within the construction traffic control zones during construction.

We will try to keep you informed of brief interruptions to normal traffic patterns as they occur.

The pavers / walkway portion of the Walley’s to Genoa Trail began installation last week and is anticipated to be finished in this week baring bad weather delays.

CLICK HERE to download our Genoa Main Street Enhancement Project PDF for a view of the final plans for Main Street.

Friday, March 29 — Main Street Construction

GENOA ENHANCEMENT PROJECT — Construction progress — Continued from Home page:

Once they have completed digging to transfer the power and electrical utilities underground in front of the Country Store, they will concentrate on similar type of work at the intersection starting next week. There will be some traffic control as they begin digging to install conduits across Genoa Lane to Mormon Station, however a full road closure will not be required. This work will allow the businesses that have been affected by work directly in front of their properties a little break from the activity taking place.

We appreciate your patience and will provide an immediate update if changes occur in the proposed work plan.

For safety reasons, parking on the street will not be possible within the construction traffic control zones during construction.

Easter Egg Hunt at Walley'sSunday, March 31 — COMMUNITY EASTER EGG HUNT

Easter Sunday Egg Hunt at Walley's — 1862 David Walley's Restuarant, Saloon, Resort & Spa, 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

David Walley's is hosting an Annual Easter Egg Hunt with two hunts this year. The first hunt at 9:30 a.m. and the second hunt at 11:30 a.m. on the amphitheater lawn just north of the restaurant.

Hunts will be separated into two age groups: Under 1 year to 6 years, and 7 years and older with a prize for the child who finds the golden egg at each hunt. Parents should dress children in weather appropriate clothing (rain and/or snow has been predicted for Sunday, March 31st in the Carson Valley area and Genoa's proximity to the Sierra Nevada range may increase the potential for more precipitation than elsewhere in the Valley).

“The Easter Bunny is hiding 3,400 plastic, treat-filled eggs, and will be on-site and available for photos,” said Katie Brannan, spokeswoman for David Walley's. “We want to reach out to the community and we have a great outdoor area for events just like this. We think it will be fun and challenging.”

David Walley's is located at 2001 Foothill Road in Genoa. For information, call (775) 309–4561. CLICK on the Flyer image (above) to download a copy to print.

April 2013

Tuesday, April 2

Genoa Town Advisory Board Meeting, (GTAB), Genoa Town Meeting Room, 6:30 p.m.

Monday, April 15 — Main Street Construction

GENOA ENHANCEMENT PROJECT — Construction progress — Continued from Home page:

This week has been a flurry of activity in Genoa with A&K working on all fronts – installing primary and secondary conduit for utility undergrounding and new services to affected property owners. Excavation of old asphalt and laying of structural base in areas of new pavers (which will match the trail!) occurred in the vicinity of the Town Hall. You might have seen other trenching as well coinciding with installation of plastic pipe for the new irrigation system to provide automatic watering to all new landscape areas.

Next week will likely be similar as the contractors push to complete as much work as possible before Genoa’s upcoming Cowboy Festival. Their program is to continue work on underground conduit placement, site grading and base preparation for pavers and new asphalt paving. NV Energy may also be present to begin setting new poles at the transition areas between underground and overhead utilities. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as the Genoa vision continues to take shape.

Monday, April 22 — Main Street Construction

GENOA ENHANCEMENT PROJECT — Construction progress — Continued from Home page:

This week, A&K Construction will continue with the type of work you have seen occurring over the previous week. They are beginning to form the concrete boundaries and curbs that will delineate areas of new paver walkways and parking, excavating and preparing sub-base for pavers, and miscellaneous tasks. Meanwhile, we expect to see NV Energy on site as well, placing poles that will become the terminal poles supporting new underground wiring.

Towards the end of the week, we anticipate a flurry of clean-up and movement of equipment and materials to offsite storage freeing up the town for next week’s preparations for the Cowboy Festival.

For safety reasons, parking on the street will not be possible within the construction traffic control zones during construction.

This week, May 13-17, construction on the Genoa Main Street Project continued after a brief rest during the Cowboy Festival. Road grading has been underway and forms installed for some of the stone-faced seat walls; a new drain pipe went in across Jack’s Valley Rd. at Genoa Lane; asphalt removal for upgraded walk and parking areas began along the west side of Jack’s Valley Rd., and NV Energy has been pulling wires for new underground power connections.

Monday, May 20 — Main Street Construction — May 20-24

GENOA ENHANCEMENT PROJECT — Construction progress — Continued from Home page:

This week, May 20-24, construction took off on the Genoa Main Street Project with work underway all over town. A&K had a large crew on site excavating and preparing the base for new pavers, setting the bases for new street lighting, forming the new access adjacent to the Inn at the corner of Genoa and Nixon Streets, and setting the man holes and other ground-based utility structures flush with the top of new walkways. It’s exciting to watch the pedestrian plan elements gradually take shape.

Next week, we anticipate similar activity on multiple fronts. A&K also intends to start laying pavers, beginning on the west side, near the Genoa Bar and also along the south side of Nixon St. if feasible. NV Energy may also be on site undergoing preparations for the removal of telephone poles. While there has been a renewed flurry of work, keep in mind that we are closing in on the completion date!

Please feel free to contact the Town Offices if you have any questions or concerns.

For safety reasons, parking on the street will not be possible within the construction traffic control zones during construction.

Monday, June 3 — Main Street Construction — June 3–7

ConstructionGENOA ENHANCEMENT PROJECT — Construction progress — Continued from Home page:

This week, June 3–7, construction work is shaping up on the Genoa Main Street project and it's getting more exciting each day. Work will continue on a number of fronts: The pavers will be completed on the west side of Jack’s Valley Road, it is likely that the four telephone poles and associated wiring will be removed this week, and the new street signs and monument signs are slated for installation. A&K has been coordinating all these various activities as best they can to keep the flow of work moving steadily forward and finish the project on schedule.

If you haven’t been out the see what is going on you will be amazed. The monuments have been relocated to the corner of Nixon and Genoa Streets, the Genoa stone seat walls are finished, and there is a new walkway leading up to the Town Park on Nixon St. Enjoy the great weather this weekend!

Utility workNext week, we anticipate similar activity on multiple fronts. While there has been a renewed flurry of work, keep in mind that we are closing in on the completion date!

Tuesday, June 4

Genoa Town Advisory Board Meeting, (GTAB), Genoa Town Meeting Room, 6:30 p.m.

Monday, June 10 — Main Street Construction — June 10 –14

ConstructionGENOA ENHANCEMENT PROJECT — Construction progress — Continued from Home page:

This week, June 10 –14, Genoa Main Street project has met several significant goals this past week with the installation of the 'WELCOME' signs at the north and south entries to the town, the positioning of the information kiosks — featured in the Friday, June 7th edition of the Record-Courier — and the constant work on the part of NV Energy in anticipation of removing the overhead wires.

Other improvements continue to occur along the west side of Foothill Road, with new walkways in front of the Genoa Country Inn, Genoa VFD Firehouse and Genoa Museum.

The plan this coming week is to start pavers on the east side of Foothill Road and eventually connect them to the Genoa-to-Walley’s Vista Trail.

Utility workNext week, be prepared for the rather momentous removal of telephone poles early in the week followed by asphalt paving overlays and patches at the end of the week.

Finishing touches, such as benches, street lighting and bike racks will be installed within the next few weeks as the project moves towards completion.
